Taptrap v1.0.1!


Hello, itch.io!

Firstly, thank you to anybody who might be reading this and for checking out my first game! In creating this game, and taking part in my first game jam, I had two main goals - to make a game, anything at all, and to record at least one original song for said game. I failed at the second one, but the first I have more than succeeded at. Again, thanks to anyone who took the time to check out Taptrap, and to all those that took part in Macro Jam #1 - I managed to play the majority of the submitted games, and I enjoyed all of them.

Now that the jam is long over, I have pushed a new version of the game, Taptrap v1.0.1. I intended to build and publish this version shortly after the jam, but after the intensity of a 96-hour jam, I felt a little disheartened. Alas, it's here now.

I mainly ironed out some of the biggest problems with the game, and implemented animations and art I didn't have time to work in before the game jam ended. I plan for this to be the final version of the game.

Additionally, I plan to write and publish a postmortem on my YouTube channel in the coming weeks to detail my thoughts about how the development of Taptrap went.  I will make a separate post when that goes live.

Regardless of my thoughts on the final product, I have found this experience both challenging and fun, and I look forward to making my next game, which will be created as part of GitHub's Game Off 2024 jam,. Thank you again to anyone who has played Taptrap.

Taptrap v1.0.1 Patch Notes

  • Game now scales to the player's screen size more appropriately.
  • Added outline shaders to trapdoors for improved clarity.
  • Added unused animations for drinks spilling when they change direction at the end of the bar.
  • Visual update to tutorial screen, including addition of in-game screenshots for greater clarity.
  • Slight visual update to credits screen.
  • Minor changes to main menu logo art.
